Among many things, Thanksgiving is a time for indulging in our favorite foods covered in gravy and delectable baked goods. If you are hosting dinner at your home and have any fur-kids, recognizing the potential dangers that some traditional foods can pose to your pets is a must!
1. Turkey Bones
Everyone at dinner wants a drumstick or the famed wishbone - including your dog. Although many caricatures depict dogs enjoying leftover bones, cooked turkey bones can splinter and cause harm to your dog's throat or digestive system.
Many traditional sides can contain this seemingly harmless ingredient. In gracious quantities, onions lead to hemolytic anemia.
Desserts containing either raisins or grapes can cause kidney damage in a dog regardless of size.
4. Fatty Trims
Spoiling your pup with fatty trims from the turkey or ham may seem like a treat, but high fat diets can lead to pancreatitis.
Bread can cause bloat which can be potentially fatal - especially in large breed dogs.
Watch your unattended alcoholic drinks because sugary concoctions can appeal to dogs and are very toxic to dogs.
Celebrate the holidays in a safe way for the whole family! Keep an eye on your pup and remind your dinner guests that they should not be giving your dog scraps. Happy Holidays from your Grandma Lucy's family!
