Winter in Colorado with Bonnie the Reading Dog

Winter in Colorado with Bonnie the Reading Dog

Bonnie, our sponsored reading dog, has had a busy month in her home state of Colorado. The mountain trails are now covered with snow, which suits her just fine. As a Great Pyrenees, her thick coat makes her uniquely adapted to winter in the mountains. Bred for centuries in the Pyrenees Mountains of Europe to guard flocks, these dogs have honed their instincts as protectors, nurturers, and companions. Known for their gentle nature and unwavering loyalty, this dog breed possesses a unique blend of strength and serenity that has earned them a place not only in homes and pastures but also in classrooms and libraries as exceptional reading therapy dogs.

Winter Wonder Tales with Bonnie: A Benefit for Teller County Regional Animal Shelter

This Saturday, Bonnie will be participating in an event at her favorite bookstore to raise money for the local animal shelter. If you live near Woodland Park, you can attend this wonderful event and meet Bonnie while helping pets in need. If you don’t live close, you can still help! You can find the list of items the shelter needs here, along with their Chewy wish list. Thanks for helping Bonnie make a difference for pets in need around her town.

Mountain Guardian Turned Literacy Hero

Bonnie is a bit of a local celebrity in her hometown of Woodland Park. She was recently featured in an article in her local paper, the Pikes Peak Courier. You can find her hosting monthly Books with Bonnie events at her favorite local bookstore, providing therapy to participants in suicide prevention events, and giving one-on-one support to young readers whenever she can. She recently made an appearance at the anniversary event at Books Above the Clouds, where she enjoyed meeting young readers and cozying up with great reads in a warm and supportive environment

A Dog in the Snow – Bonnie’s Winter Adventures

Bonnie doesn’t just like the snow—she loves it! Her dog mom Sierra will never forget her first snow day after moving to Colorado. The pure joy in her little leaps and the way she rolled around in the fresh snow made it clear this was her favorite thing. Sierra is pretty sure Bonnie can sense when snow is coming because as soon as the first flurries start, she’s at the door, ready to go.

Her favorite snow-day activities include running around with Jon, her dog dad, and, of course, rolling around in the snow. She also loves hiking in the snow. Sierra says that during snowstorms, Bonnie’s acts sassy—she’ll either act sad or refuse to come back inside!

Thankfully, Bonnie’s thick coat keeps her warm during her snowy adventures in the Colorado winter, and after eating our all-natural, freeze-dried 3 Bears line of food exclusively since they adopted her, she has lost weight, which helps keep her fit to run and roll in the snow.

We are so proud of Bonnie and all the great work she is doing in her community, and are proud to be her food sponsor! You can follow Bonnie’s adventures on her Instagram account here – spread the love and share her inspirational story. We hope you are having a magical winter wherever you are!
