Charlie the Service Dog's Journey to Better Health

Meet Charlie!

Pet Parent: Amanda Lowman
Breed: Goldendoodle
Age: 4 Years

Some dogs become our best friends. Others become our lifeline.

For Amanda Lowman, Charlie is both.

Charlie has been Amanda's medical alert service dog for the past four years, helping her navigate life with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome). As Amanda prepared to leave for college, she and her family knew having a service dog by her side would provide the support and confidence she needed. Together, they became a team, and Amanda even created social media accounts for Charlie to raise awareness about the important role service dogs play and to advocate for the disabled community.

But before Charlie could focus on caring for Amanda, he faced health challenges of his own.

A Search for Answers

Charlie was frequently getting sick, making it difficult for him to perform his important role as a service dog. After countless vet visits, food trials, medications, and medicated shampoos, Amanda finally found the answer through allergy testing.

Charlie was allergic to fish.

The challenge? Fish is a common ingredient in many dog foods, treats, and supplements, making it difficult to find options that worked for him.

Finding the Right Bowl

While sharing Charlie's allergy journey online, Amanda connected with Grandma Lucy's and was invited to try the freeze-dried Artisan Chicken recipe.

That first bowl made a lasting impression.

"One sample of the freeze-dried Artisan Chicken became a life-changing moment for both Charlie and me. We had finally found a food that was fish-free, natural, and delicious."

Amanda says Charlie was excited about mealtime again, and finding a recipe that fit his dietary needs brought peace of mind.

Today, Charlie still eagerly tilts his head whenever he hears the word "breakfast," and Grandma Lucy's Organic Oven-Baked Treats have become a favorite reward during service dog training.

Healthy Together

For Amanda, feeding Charlie is about more than filling his bowl, it's about supporting the partner who supports her every day.

"Charlie and I absolutely LOVE Grandma Lucy's. We're grateful for products we feel good about feeding, a company that values honesty and advocacy, and a community that truly cares about dogs and the people who love them."

We're honored to be a small part of Charlie's story and can't wait to cheer him on as he continues changing lives one wag at a time.
