How We Give Back: Making an Impact for Pets in May

How We Give Back: Making an Impact for Pets in May

In the month of May, we are proud to report that we donated 10,572 meals to service and therapy dogs, and pets in need in our community through our charitable initiative, Project PetRAK!

Project PetRAK (Random Acts of Kindness) was founded by mother-daughter duo Breann and Alex Shook to provide nutritious meals to service dogs, therapy dogs, and pets in need. We partner with organizations like Firefly Meadows Service Dogs, Locks4Paws, OC Animal Allies, Spoof Dawg to the Rescue, and Families Forward to deliver nutritious meals, and make a difference for pets. Beyond feeding programs, and disaster relief, the initiative supports the human-animal bond by assisting with the substantial costs associated with training service dogs, ensuring that individuals who rely on these animals for independence and companionship can access them.

Supporting Families (and their pets) in Crisis through Food Bank Donations

Families Forward’s mission is to prevent and end family homelessness by providing access to housing and resources that create lasting stability. Some of the wonderful services they provide include housing programs, rent and utility assistance, mental health counseling, medical resources, and a new Community Market food bank where families in need can come to “shop” for food and other crucial supplies, including food for their pets.

Dylan and Ellie from our Marketing team had the opportunity to take a tour of the new Community Market when they dropped off the May donation. They were impressed by the care put into creating a space where families in need can come to “shop” for items they really need, in a space that feels like a real market, maintaining their dignity and fostering a fun, community-building experience.

Fueling Therapy Dogs with Nutritious Meals

Our therapy dog sponsorship program holds a very special place in our hearts. Inspired by their journey with their son Hunter, who has Autism, Grandma Lucy’s co-founders Eric and Breann Shook experienced firsthand the profound impact service and therapy dogs can have on individuals and families. Through their connection with the special needs community, they witnessed the life-changing freedom and emotional support these incredible animals provide. Moved by this experience, they felt called to give back—by helping these dogs live long, healthy lives through the power of proper nutrition.

This month, we sent our specially formulated grain-inclusive 3 Bears recipes to the incredible dogs in our sponsorship program—Rocket, Mayzie, and Bonnie. While we were deeply saddened to say goodbye to sweet Bonnie as she crossed the rainbow bridge, her legacy of love and service lives on. These incredible dogs bring comfort, support, and smiles to classrooms and first responders alike.

Follow their journeys on Instagram and be inspired by the joy and healing they share every day.

Firefly Meadows Service Dogs – Supporting a Non-Profit Training Service Dogs

In April 2025, Grandma Lucy’s proudly became the official food sponsor of Firefly Meadow Service Dogs (FMSD), providing monthly shipments of our nutritious 3 Bears recipes to support the breeding dogs and comfort canines at the heart of their mission. This ongoing donation allows founder and president Chelsea Patenaude to focus more fully on raising and training their newest litter of future service dogs. Dedicated to enhancing the genetics and sustainability of purpose-bred canines, FMSD prepares Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, and German Shepherd Dogs to assist individuals with disabilities. Grandma Lucy’s is honored to fuel these incredible dogs and be part of the life-changing impact they make every day.
