Inflammation is the main factor at play in common joint related issues like arthritis and hip dysplasia. Reducing inflammation in the body can aid in relieving and managing pain and can help restore mobility. Turmeric contains the phytonutrient curcumin, which offers a multitude of health benefits, but is perhaps most known for its powerful anti-inflammatory properties. While you can offer turmeric or curcumin supplements, the easiest way to incorporate this powerhouse ingredient into your pup’s diet is to feed a food already containing turmeric, like Grandma Lucy’s Macanna. This way you can ensure your dog is getting a dose of turmeric at every meal to keep inflammation at bay throughout the day.

Beyond reducing pain and inflammation, it’s important to protect and support bones and joints to prevent conditions from worsening or the development of new ailments. In addition to turmeric, Macanna also features hemp hearts, the hulled center of hempseeds, which aid in relief from joint pain and help support bones. Hemp hearts are a great source of magnesium, which is key for strong and healthy bones. Magnesium helps with proper calcium absorption and supports a higher bone mineral density to keep senior dogs feeling strong and help prevent fractures or osteoarthritis.  Hemp hearts are also a great source of Omega-3’s and contain an ideal ratio of Omega-3’s to Omega-6’s, which also helps to reduce inflammation in the body.

Rehydrate your pup’s food with bone broth to give their bowl an extra boost! Bone broth is an excellent source of collagen and is rich in glucosamine. Glucosamine helps stimulate the production of new collagen to help support and repair joints. Adding bone broth to your pet’s diet allows them to get the benefits of glucosamine and collagen the most direct way, for maximum health benefits and easy absorption. Making your own bone broth is easy, but if you prefer store-bought just make sure that it doesn’t contain onion or added salt for it to be pet appropriate.

Take in all autumn has to offer- don’t let creaky joints slow you down! Be sure to try out these superfoods and super additions to your pet’s bowl. Fall may be here, but a spring in your pup’s step is a must in every season!
